Arsene Wenger admits Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may still join Arsenal but the club are ‘far from close’ to a deal for the striker.
Arsenal stepped up their talks to sign Aubameyang last weekend but
the move is reportedly on the verge of collapsing as Borussia Dortmund
grow frustrated with the Gunners’ reluctance to meeting their asking
price.
Ivan Gazidis has traveled to Dortmund in the hope of thrashing out a
deal for the Gabon international before the January transfer window
slams shut.
Asked about Aubameyang on Friday morning, Wenger said: ‘I cannot tell
you more. We have nothing to announce. At the moment, we stay where we
are. We keep our players.
‘We have added Mkhitaryan and lost Sanchez. Will anything else happen? At the moment, I don’t know.
‘It is far from close. It is possible we will recruit someone else but I won’t give you a name.’
Dortmund boss Peter Stoger gave Arsenal hope of landing Aubameyang
earlier this week by claiming that he’s keen to sort the matter in the
coming days.
Asked about Arsenal’s interest in the forward, Stoger said: ‘I can only say that we’d like to have a solution at some point.
No matter how this solution will look like. I guess many will agree with this.
‘Whatever brings clarity would help the team.’
